Tax Rates Standardized Tax Bills The Minister of Finance has introduced a regulation governing both the content and the form of all Provincial property tax bills. This regulation will be effective for the final 2001 tax bills. The key objective of the property tax reform in Ontario is to achieve a consistent, fair and transparent tax system. As part of the system, every taxpayer should have a clear understanding of how his or her tax liability has been calculated. A standardized tax bill will ensure that tax bills across the province are understandable and comparable. Taxpayers with properties in the commercial, industrial or multi-residential property classes will receive a bill as well as an explanation of the tax calculations. Taxpayers with properties in the residential/farm, farmlands or managed forests property classes will receive an explanation of year-over-year tax changes with their property tax bills. Please note that properties with Mixed Assessments will be receiving a separate bill for each assessment class. New homeowners can make increased payments to offset the higher tax base for the newly built home. Contact the tax department for more information. 2010 Tax Billing Due Dates 2010 Final Due Dates: To calculate your taxes payable, multiply your assessment by the corresponding realty class tax rate.
