Department of Planning and Development Services

The LaSalle Department of Planning and Development Services provides a broad range of policy planning and land development approval and review services.  LaSalle's Department of Planning and Development Services staff also provides administrative and technical support for the LaSalle Committee of Adjustment.

The Department of Planning and Development Services staff are committed to an open and inclusive planning process which builds and promotes community partnerships and enables us to deal with evolving community planning, land use, growth management, environmental and development issues.  A “healthy, vibrant and caring” community is the cornerstone element and the guiding principle of the town’s approved Official Plan.  The recently adopted Mission Statement for LaSalle has embraced this philosophy and reads as follows:

“Healthy, Vibrant and Caring” “…. Working together to enhance the livability of our community, celebrate our accomplishments, respect our small-town values, and improve the health and well being of all LaSalle residents”

We strive to:

  • Be respectful of our natural and human heritage;

  • Be committed to our civic and family values;

  • Strengthen the quality life for our people.

The LaSalle Official Plan provides the policy direction which is used by Council, the Committee of Adjustment, municipal staff, landowners and other affected stakeholders when making decisions with respect to land use planning, natural heritage protection, transportation, municipal infrastructure and other community planning and land development matters town-wide.

The Town’s Zoning By-law sets out the detailed regulations that are to be complied with when new lots are created and buildings and structures are constructed in the Town of LaSalle.

With the amalgamation of the former Building Department, the Department of Planning and Development Services is now the first stop for all proposed developments or construction within the Town.  Permits are necessary for any work that physically changes or adds to your property, including:

  • building a house or other structure;

  • moving or demolishing a building;

  • additions or alterations to an existing home;

  • re-roofing a home or building;

  • electrical, mechanical or plumbing alterations/improvements;

  • swimming pools;

  • retaining walls.
