Making your swimming pool application
Specific requirements for your swimming pool
permit and fencing are:
Step #1
-
Provide a scaled site plan showing shape
and location of swimming pool, fencing, gate location, decks,
pool equipment (pump, filters and heaters), and all accessory
structures (garage, sheds).

Note that a separate building permit are
required for accessory structures. Any structure greater than
100 Square feet require a building permit and must be located a
minimum of 5’-0” from the rear and side property lines. Any
structure less than a 100 square feet does not require a
building permit however must have a minimum of 2’-0” setback
from the rear and side property lines. A minimum of 4.5 m
(14’-9”) set back is required for corner lots.
Step #2
During and After Construction

During the installation of the swimming
pool the yard must be secured with a temporary fence or
combination of permanent and temporary fences must be used.

Any alterations to the existing rear yard
catch basin must be re-inspected.

Arrangements must be made to have
inspections completed for the swimming pool and pool enclosure.

Residential Swimming Pools and Fence
Information
Construction of swimming pool and fence
enclosures must comply with
the Town of LaSalle fence
By-law and
setback requirements. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to
obtain a permit to install a swimming pool. Swimming pool cannot be
installed without proper fencing.
Requirements for swimming pools enclosures
(Fencing)

Fence permits are not required, however all
new fences must comply with the
Town of LaSalle Fence
By-Law 5136.

Pool enclosures are required for all
swimming pools that are more than 24” deep and a 1000 gallons or
more.

Minimum height for any pool enclosure is
48”.
-
Above ground pools can serve as an
enclosure provided the pool wall is a minimum 48” high and any
access into the pool is restricted. This requirement does not
apply to inflatable pools.

Construction of pool enclosures (fence)
shall not have any horizontal members than can facilitate climb
ability. Such members shall have a minimum distance of 32”
apart. (Refer to fence drawings)

A fence of chain link construction that
forms part of the swimming pool enclosure shall have a mesh not
greater than 1 ˝” x 1 ˝”. (Refer to fence drawings)

Any gate that is provided in a swimming
pool enclosure must be self-closing and self-latching.

Fences shall be installed on owner’s
property. The installation of a fence on a neighbouring property
can lead to civil litigation and additional cost to relocate the
fence. The Town of LaSalle does not get involved in any boundary
disputes.

Barbed wire fence and electrical fences are
not permitted.

Maximum height of any type of fence is
6’-0” including any latticework.

Any fencing in the front yard must have a
maximum height of 4’-0” and be of open type and cannot extend
beyond the front yard property line.
Requirements for swimming pools,

Swimming pool permits are required for all
types of swimming pools (above ground, in-ground and inflatable
pools).

A minimum 4’-0” setback shall be maintained
from the property line to the waters edge of the swimming pool.

A minimum 4’-0” setback shall be maintained
from the property line to all pumps, heaters, and filters.

In ground swimming pools shall be installed
as to not affect neighbouring properties. Must maintain own
water runoff and proper grading

Any relocation of rear yard catch basin to
accommodate the swimming pool must be re-inspected.

Large Inflatable Swimming Pools
For the protection of all citizens, if you own
a inflatable pool or are considering purchase one, please be advised
that a pool permit and the installation of a pool enclosure is
required that is in compliance with all the provisions of the fence
By-law. No person shall place water in an inflatable swimming pool
until such requirements have been fulfilled.
