In addition to fire calls, the LaSalle Fire Service now responds to alarms for auto extrication and rescue, confined space rescue, medical, defibrillation, or ambulance support, hazardous material responses, as well as responses during times of natural or man made disasters. In addition to emergency responses on a normal day in the LaSalle Fire Service, you will find fire fighters training to maintain existing or new skill sets, developing pre-incident surveys, presenting public education programming in schools or maintaining emergency equipment in a constant state of readiness. The Fire Prevention Officer enforces the Ontario Fire Code for all occupied buildings falling under our jurisdiction, such as apartments, care facilities, commercial and industrial sites. With passage of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, fire prevention and public education have gained an even higher profile within Ontario's Fire Service. To this end, specific educational, and preventative, programs have been developed for all sectors of our community. "Older and Wiser" is a comprehensive program for Seniors; "Learn Not To Burn" and "Risk Watch" are two extensive prevention programs being fully implemented in LaSalle's elementary schools; as well as general fire prevention presentations made available at the request of any group or organisation in LaSalle. The Training Officer coordinates/delivers all training needs within LaSalle Fire Service. This training is recognised by the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office and the Ontario Fire College for its commitment to ongoing training and the expedient adoption of improved training methods. LaSalle Fire Service was the first in Ontario to have completed the Ontario Firefighter Curriculum and was the first to achieve Provincial Certification in 2000.
