AQUATIC LEADERSHIP CLASSES BRONZE STAR Swimmers can start their lifesaving training earlier. The content and performance criteria are designed to be challenging but achievable with effort. 100% attendance is required to fulfill course requirements.

BRONZE MEDALLION/EMERGENCY FIRST AID/CPR B Everything starts here with the first class in the Lifesaving Society's Leadership Program. This course develops a timed swim fitness component and introduces decision making and judgment skills. Students are required to perform various tows, carries and release techniques. 100% attendance is required to fulfill course requirements. Prerequisite: 13 Years

BRONZE CROSS In the second step of the LSS program the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding is introduced. Students begin to work as a supervisory team of guards and they gain experience in rescue simulations. Spinal injury management techniques are also covered. 100% attendance is required to fulfill course requirements. Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion, Emergency 1st Aid

NATIONAL LIFEGUARD SERVICE WITH STANDARD FIRST AID AND CPR C + AED This course teaches the key qualification in the Lifesaving Society's program. Once a student earns an NLS certification in either the pool or waterfront option he or she is legally recognized and employable in a lifeguarding position. Teamwork, Leadership, communication and a high level of physical fitness are emphasized. 100% attendance is required to fulfill course requirements. Now incorporated the NLS candidates will learn and be certified in the administration and use of an automated external defibrillator. Prerequisite: Bronze Cross and 16 years of age.

EXAMINER STANDARDS CLINIC This course provides candidates the knowledge on the Lifesaving Society's examination standard. The Lifesaving society appoints experienced instructors with the Examiner Standards Clinic as Examiners for the advanced classes such as Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard and more! Prerequisite: Current Lifesaving Instructor Certification.

STANDARD FIRST AID INSTRUCTORS This course provides the knowledge and materials to teach the standard first aid award. This award includes life threatening emergencies and adult, child, infant CPR. Prerequisites: Advanced Instructors, Current Standard First Aid.

AQUATIC SUPERVISOR TRAINING This course is for deck-level supervisory staff. This 10-hour course provides knowledge and skills (beyond the National Lifeguard certification) to manage a safe aquatic environment. Prerequisites: Current NLS and 100 hours as a lifeguard or swim instructor

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR Now a mandatory pre-requisite to enter Swim and Lifesaving Instructors This course prepares candidates to help certified instructors with swimming and lifesaving classes. Candidates are introduced to key principles of learning and teaching, and they master basic progressions. The roles and responsibilities of instructors and their assistants are emphasized. Prerequisite: Current Bronze Cross (or higher) certification and 14 years of age.

LIFESAVING SOCIETY INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL: SWIM & LIFESAVING INSTRUCTORS The combined Swim & Lifesaving Instructors course focuses on preparing the instructor to teach and evaluate basic swim strokes and related skills. Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques. Swim Instructors are certified to teach and evaluate all levels of the Lifesaving Society Swim Program, and Lifesaving Instructors are able to teach (and evaluate sections) of the Lifesaving programs. Prerequisite: 16 years of age, Current Bronze Cross Certification. Attendance is mandatory at all of the six classes listed below:
