Coyotes in Both Rural and Urban Settings

Coyotes, like other wild animals, sometimes come into conflict with humans. Coyotes have adapted well to urban environments and can now be found in both rural and urban settings. Changes in land use, agricultural practices, weather and natural food shortages may contribute to increased coyote sightings in your community.

County Wide Active Transportation Study (CWATS)

The County of Essex is commencing a study to develop a County Wide Active Transportation Study (CWATS). The study will also support and strengthen the active transportation plans of our local municipalities.

Your help is needed to make this study a success! The first phase of the study is seeking assistance to gauge public opinion and interest that affect pedestrians and cyclists through an on-line survey. This is your opportunity to participate in this process and make your views known.

You can do this by completing the online survey at:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CWATS_Questionnaire

Get involved over the course of the study by attending the public consultation open houses and workshops that will be scheduled throughout the year with the first one expected to occur in early May 2010. The date, time and location of these meetings will be posted on the County and Local Municipalities website and local papers.

A notice of commencement is viewable for your information (pdf).

The Town of LaSalle Extends Online Services

The Town of LaSalle is committed to recognizing the diverse needs of its residents and customers by striving to provide services that are accessible to all persons. The Town has now implemented assistive technology called BrowseAloud on its website in an effort to ensure that more people can access online services independently.

BrowseAloud is designed to make a website more accessible, by providing tools that allow the user to have online content read aloud, with each word highlighted as it is spoken.  This audio-visual reinforcement can aid reading comprehension for those who require online reading support. This includes those with low literacy levels, dyslexia, mild visual impairments and those with English or French as a second language.

The latest version of BrowseAloud also offers a range of features to reinforce online reading support. Key features include dual-color highlighting, text magnification, a dictionary, a translator, an MP3 maker and a screen masking tool.  All features and options are customizable to the end user’s need or preference, and can be accessed from an easy to use, floating toolbar.

Visitors to The Town of LaSalle’s website can now download BrowseAloud, free-of-charge, from www.browsealoud.com/ca/download  The application can also be used on any website that has implemented BrowseAloud.
